What is ultrasound-guided technique with foam?
This technique consists in treating varicose veins in a simple form, conducted in consultation virtually painless. Before the treatment always conducted a clinical study and diagnosis. The diagnosis is based on Doppler ultrasound study that will allow us to conduct a study of both the drive and the malfunction of these varices. It also allows us to locate the points where we will perform this technique. Once you have made this diagnosis we do is inject a foam, a drug in the form of foam inside the varicose vein. How do you inject? The injected either clinically visible varices, but especially in the veins that are not seen, those inner saphenous veins, with ultrasound guidance, supported by the use of ultrasound. Once you have done this puncture the patient practically does not hurt anything, we put an elastic stocking and the patient can return to normal activity without restriction for physical activity and their work.
What patients should use this technique?
This technique is intended for a large percentage of patients we see in the clinic and who have varicose veins. Approximately 90% of these patients are susceptible of being able to deal with the technique. It also has a very good indication for patients who have undergone previous surgery and those who have appeared recurrent varicose veins, ie, a new recurrence of varices.
Are the results definitive?
Given that the vein is a disease that is considered chronic-ing the foam gives a very good start and clinical outcome and is much extended in time. Like any treatment for varicose vein will require a bit of maintenance in the future and that will depend on the uniqueness of each patient.
What care should have a patient after undergoing this procedure?
Actually the patient should not have a special precautions too, just is advisable to use an elastic stocking during the duration of the treatment, it is also advisable to avoid physical activity greatly exaggerated the day of the puncture and apart from this you can perform normal physical and occupational functioning without any problems.
