Uterine myoma, a benign process
Written by:Fibroids are benign tumors of the uterus that can cause pain and bleeding. It is mentioned in this article our expert in gynecology and obstetrics
What are uterine fibroids?
A fibroid is a proliferation and an increase in uterine muscle fibers. It is recognized by the appearance of nodules in different points of the uterus and this is what is commonly called fibroids or uterine leiomyoma. It is a benign process than in exceptional circumstances, and that affects a large percentage of women from adolescence to menopause.
Why some women develop it? Depends on what?
It is still unknown why some women develop the myomas and others do not. What we do know is that fibroids are benign tumors, which are based on the hormonal level of women. Manifest from the time of puberty to menopause. During menopause most cases decrease, or may disappear altogether.
What are the problems and symptoms caused by uterine fribromi?
The symptoms of fibroids are very different. Depend mainly on three factors: the number of fibroids, the size of these fibroids and their position within the uterus. Generally the most common symptoms in women with uterine fribromi are menstrual disorders, heavy menstrual bleeding and also abdominal pain in the lower abdomen area including nearby organs, especially the bladder.
What is the treatment?
The only really effective treatment for uterine fibroids is working through a surgical operation. This does not mean that every patient with uterine myoma should be operated. Everything depends primarily on two factors. First of all, it depends on the symptoms that the patient presents. Second, we need to see if the fibroids tend to grow or stabilize with the passage of time. If the fibroids are few symptoms can be treated with the treatment prescribed by a doctor, without the need to resort to surgery.
