Intervention rhizolysis
Written by:The radiofrequency rhizotomy is an outpatient surgical intervention we do to treat cases of herniated discs, degenerative disc disease and problems of both cervical and lumbar facet in case that does not require a conventional surgical intervention.
During the intervention
With the aid of fluoroscopy locate the L4- L5 and L5 -S1. We will put some local anesthetic and then apply radiofrequency.
Now we are with the electrode located between L4 -L5 on the left side, motor stimulation is noticed and the main thing is not radiating to the left lower extremity. The patient has noticed mobility in motor stimulation electrode in the treatment area but not radiating to the lower extremity. Now let L4 -L5 right, check first the anatomical location thanks to radioscopy, then we proceed to sensory stimulation and the patient feels a pressure that is important not to radiate into the leg. Now practice motor stimulation and it shows the mobility of the electrode. The patient complained of pain by local anesthesia and sedation ApliCAD a, just note the touch when the electrode enters through the skin.
Now we apply the radiofrequency left L5 -S1. Normally this technique usually lasts about 15-20 minutes under local anesthesia and sedation, then it gets a little Betadine® ;, dressing and one can resume normal activities immediately. We advise you not to make efforts for 2 or 3 days.
Usually the patient presents with fasting in case need to apply sedation. Advise the patient to apply Betadine®in the treatment area for 2 or 3 days. For 3 or 4 days is advisable not to make an effort and outpatient monitoring within 1 month to assess the effect of the technique.
