Protect ourselves with vaccines
Written by:Dr.. Roberto Giorgetti, Pediatrician at the Istituto Clinico San Carlo, we talk about how vaccines are the instrument through which millions of lives are saved each year
Vaccines have permission to change the world population's health due to their ability to prevent potentially fatal diseases. According to the World Health Organization, in fact, immunizations save each year between 2 and 3 million lives, particularly those of children.
In Italy, there is the administration of basic cycles in the first year of the child's life, a fundamental prevention to immunize the small against some of the most important diseases. In infants and children, in fact, diseases like whooping cough and measles can be severe enough to require admission to hospital of the little patient and cause permanent damage.
Vaccinations are not 100% effective, and it is precisely why it is important to maintain high vaccine coverage: the greater the number of immunized subjects, also made possible by any references provided in the course of life, the greater the level of protection for the entire community.
Every healthcare provider should inform and promote vaccinations, countering the myths and arisen resistance in recent years. The vaccines that are used today are tried and tested before, during and after the introduction into the clinical practice: are, therefore, completely safe and with mild and infrequent side effects.
At the Istituto Clinico San Carlo making all relevant vaccination for children and adults: hepatitis A, hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, meningitis, measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, pneumococcus, rotavirus, haemophilus, tetravalent influenza type Influence b conjugate vaccine, HPV papilloma virus, tetanus, typhoid, rabies etc.
