Prof. Luca Valenti, after having spent a period of training at Columbia University in New York, specialized in Internal Medicine.
His main field of interest is hepatology and metabolic diseases. In fact, it deals with the treatment of hepatic steatosis , diseases of iron metabolism , viral hepatitis and genetic diseases of the liver , as well as the management of patients with complex internal diseases .
In 2000 he graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan and obtained the Specialization in Internal Medicine at the same University.
Since 2016 he is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Milan, which has an agreement with the IRCCS Ca 'Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico Hospital in Milan. He is in charge of a service of Internal Medicine and Hepatology, integrated in the functional unit of Hepatology of the Polyclinic, one of the Italian reference centers for liver diseases and transplantation, and of the Research Unit of Translational Medicine at the UOC Transfusion Medicine and Hematology, where he is the scientific supervisor.
Considered one of the world's leading experts in the field of hepatic steatosis, hyperferritinemia and in the study of hereditary factors that predispose to liver diseases, he is a member of the Scientific Committee and governing board of the European Association for the Study of Liver (EASL) and coordinator of the commission rare diseases of the Italian Association for the Study of the Liver (AISF). He is also an honorary member of the Institute of Hepatology, Liver Trust, at King's College of London.
Finally, he is Editor-in-Chief of Liver International, one of the major Hepatology magazines in the world and a partner in important scientific societies, and has received numerous awards for his work in the field of scientific research and public and private funding for clinical and translational research.
